IPAフォント(Ver.3)は、JIS X 0213:2004に準拠したTrueTypeベースOpenType形式のアウトラインフォントです。
IPA Font is JIS X 0213:2004 compliant TrueType based OpenType format outline font.

明朝体とゴシック体があり、それぞれに等幅／プロポーショナルの2種類、計4書体を用意しています。
IPA Font provides totally four fonts: Mincho style, Gothic (Sans serif) style and fixed width style and proportional style for each.

JIS X 0213:2004は、JISの古い規格である JIS X 0208:1997に比較して、文字種が増えているだけでなく、2004年２月に経済産業省より発表された「JIS漢字コード表の改正について」により、2000年12月８日国語審議会で答申された「表外漢字字体表」に示された印刷標準字体に基づくよう、例示字体が変更されています。
IPAフォント(Ver.3)の字体はJIS X　0213:2004の例示字体に準拠しているため、JIS X　0208:1997準拠のフォントと異なる字体となっている文字があります。
（例：「辻」、「葛」など）。

なお、旧版（Ver.002）のJIS X 0213:2004に準拠したTrueTypeフォント、および旧規格である JIS X 0208:1997に準拠したIPAフォントもダウンロード可能です。但し、旧版フォントはバグ対応も含めて今後のアップデート予定はございません。

The design of characters and character set of IPA Font follows JIS X 0213:2004. Some of shapes of characters are differ from former standards: JIS X 0208:1997. For more detailed information, see following sites.

The previous version of IPA Font namely Ver.002 (JIS X 0213:2004 compliant TrueType fonts) and much older version (JIS　X 0208:1997 compliant TrueType fonts), are also available in "as-is" base. Please note that no update or bug-fixes are supported for these old versions.

旧IPAフォントの扱いについて/Licenses for older versions

過去に配布された全てのＩＰＡフォントにつきましては、今回のリリースに適用する新たなライセンス、IPAフォントライセンス（v1.0）の影響を受けません。そのまま、従来と同じ利用条件でご利用いただけます。過去バージョン（Ver.002.03）のダウンロードも提供しておりますが、それについては、引き続き、Ver.002.03用に準備しています「一般利用者向けIPAフォント使用許諾契約書（エンド・ユーザ・ライセンス）」に同意いただく必要があります。
新しいライセンスの下でのご利用につきましては、新たにIPAフォント（Ver.3）をダウンロードいただく必要があります。

You can use older versions of IPA Font continuously under their original conditions of use. New license (IPA Font License v1.0 which is applied to IPA Font Ver.3) shall never give any effect to older versions of IPA Font. You need to download IPA Font Ver.3 if you want to be applied OSI approved IPA Font License v1.0.

旧IPAフォントとの互換性について/Compatibility with older versions

今回配布を開始したIPAフォント(Ver.3)のフォント名（「IPA明朝」、「IPAゴシック」等）は、旧バージョンのIPAフォント（Ver.2.*） につけられていたフォント名と同一となっています。そのため、これらを同一OS上に混在して利用することはできません。新バージョンのインストール前に旧バージョンのフォントファイルの削除が必要です。Ver.2.* フォントの用いられた文書等を、Ver.3フォントの実装された環境で表示、編集等をすることについては支障はありません。

The names of these new version 3 fonts (Ver.3,) are same with the ones for older versions (Ver.2.*,) of IPA Font. So, Ver.3 and Ver.2 can not be used simultaneously in one system. Please uninstall old versions before installation of new ones. There is no problem for viewing and/or editing documents which were created in the environment using older version of IPA Font on the environment with IPA Font Ver.3, vice versa.
